Is social media the new drug of choice? Are we now becoming a bunch of junkies, high on the likes? Do we even know what the “real world ” is or looks like? Do we know how to function with out seeing other peoples lives, or our own, shown on a platform, consumed of lies and perfection.
Over the past few months I have opened my eyes to see not just how much social media has changed society but how addicted this world has become. How social media controls us, we wake up – check, go to work – check, go home – check, we live our lives to check, and what exactly are we all so addicted to checking? Why are we all so obsessed ?
Maybe you don’t have a problem, maybe you just want to take a break or make a change. This mini detox for social media can be for anyone seeking any kind of social media break or change! But if you are unsure be honest with yourself and do what works for you!
Now Ask yourself!
- Do you check your Instagram or Facebook (or any other social media platform) more than twice a day
- Do you find yourself obsessing over how many “likes” you or someone else gets?
- Do you judge yourself or others based on the amount of followers or friends they have?
- Do you get envious or jealous when you see other peoples “picture-perfect” lives on social media?
- Do you feel you need social media to live?
- Do you judge someone based on what you see and read on social media?
If you answered yes too most of these or even more than two, I suggest you start this detox or at least try to make a change!
So are you ready to start the 7 day detox!?
Start by unfollowing and cleaning out the old junk! Delete the things you don’t need in your life!
Turn off notifications, if you don’t see it you won’t check it!
Re-arrange your apps!
Your probably thinking WTF right? Well you click so often your brain knows where the apps are so if you change them up you’ll have to think more before clicking! Get out of the habit!
Post to social media and don’t look at it all day!
Sounds weird right? Well this will help you learn not to care about likes and comments. If you can’t see it you wont check!
Media Free till dinner!
If you feel you can not touch till dinner try to leave your phone at home or away in a place you can’t access easily!
The hardest day! It’s time for a day with out checking, social media free!
Try to leave your phone off or in your room, maybe even leave it at home! If you can do this you can do it all!
Figure out what social media account you can live with out and delete it!
One less account one less thing to check.
