Since how I edit my photos has been a highly asked question by many, I thought it was time to share my secret! Funny enough, it actually is quite easy and something I work on little by little every photo! I have not mastered any crazy technique by any means, but it works for me and many people have seemed to really like it! So I thought it was time to share my step by step process!
What I Use To Take My Photos!
To get a photo you need a camera and for all my photos I am either using my phone, one of our Nikons or the Go Pro Hero 5. They are all great cameras, but no you do not need any of them to get my look. That means don’t go rushing over to amazon to buy one or any of them! Just use what you’ve got!
1|| It’s All About The Fade!
To start off I always put all my photos in the I Phone filter fade! It adds a vintage kinda look that I just love! I consider it my primer, like make up or paint you need a base coat! This is one step I sometime will just use by itself! It’s easy and gives a great look.
2|| Take It To VSCO!
Next I take all my photos over to VSCO. This is an app that often tends to confuse people and overwhelm them. Well for all of you that get crazy confused don’t! I am here to help and offer this step by step on how to master my look!
Start by uploading the photo of your choice to the app! Like I said before, I always make sure all of my photos are already in fade so don’t forget that step!
Next it’s time to edit! No I am not giving you my exact edit process(haha) but I will help you get to something similar or help you get on your way to creating your own look!
Start with exposure! This is what I do to often brighten my photo! Sometimes I go down to make it darker but that is very rare! In the photo below it shows you what effect you will get when you make those changes! Don’t forget everyone has different taste so do what you like best!
Next I go edit my temperature. This is one step that helps give my photo the pinkish tinge. Sometimes I won’t even us this tool, but when I do I always go down so it gives it a perfect blue tint, like you can see down below. However feel free to play around!
After the temperature it’s straight to tint! This is the finishing touches that give my photos that pink aspect! I always go up with this as you can see below! I don’t often go to crazy with this edit because I don’t want it to be to much! Same goes with the temperature!
Now it’s time to save! If you want feel free to play around with the other settings like sharpen, fade and any other options they have. Don’t ever worry about messing up because you can always start over!
3|| It’s time for PicLab
PicLab is the app I use to get my white boarders around my Instagram photos! However, this is a step I have paid for. If you don’t pay, you will get left with a watermark on the photo that says ” PicLab “. It is only $2.79, so for me it was worth the money because I use it on every photo! If you are not wanting to pay all you have to do is position the photo right and crop out the water mark.
Like always start by uploading your photo to the app. After you are done with that you will add your border and save! Like I said above if you don’t want to pay the money you will have to reposition your photo in the border so there is more white. That way you can crop the water mark out after!
Here is the before and after! You can’t tell that there was a white back ground added but you can definitely see the difference. The new photo has a bit more of a vintage fade going on where the old photo is much brighter! I didn’t do anything other then the steps above to get this look either!
My photo editing for Instagram definitely has a few steps to it. It’s completely worth it and in no time you’ll get pretty fast at editing too! I highly recommend taking some time to download these apps and play around. Before you know it you’ll have your own process, and personalized Instagram theme!
Don’t hesitate to ask any questions, I am alway here to help!
