Happy First Birthday Everything Meli!
A year ago I went on a huge whim, invested close to $300 and started Everything Meli. I’m not sure how the last 12 months have gone by this fast, but they have, and here we are, a year older and a whole lot wiser. The last 12 months have been a huge adventure with ups, downs and everything in between! Truthfully, it has been an amazing experience and I have learned so much along the way. Things that not only have changed me, but Everything Meli too, and I couldn’t be happier with the direction we are headed. So let’s start year two off with ten things I’ve learned in a year of blogging!
1|| Blogging Is A Full Time Job
You have no idea! When I first started Everything Meli I didn’t really know what I was doing or what to even expect. Of course I read lots about how much time blogging took up and man these people where right! As of right now I run 4 social media accounts, a very active blog and somehow fit a personal life in! I probably spend a good 30 hours a week blogging, researching, interacting with my readers and keeping everything up to date! It’s completely a full time job and I am so lucky to have been able to put this much time and effort into it!
2|| Theres A Huge Community Behind Blogging
When I first started blogging a year ago I had no idea it was somewhere I would ever make friends! I knew it might bring me readers or connections but not friends! I now have a huge group of ladies around me who have become family! The best part, these ladies are from all over the word, like Jackie G she is from UK, or Tabitha who is from Nashville, theres Jackie M who is located in New Jersey and Taylor who is Canadian and from Alberta! We are all so far apart, but yet so close! I think the fact that they are all bloggers just like me, they understand what I go through and some how always know how to help! They have become better friends then many people I have known for years and thats pretty cool if you ask me!
3|| Just Be Me
This one took me a bit to learn! It wasn’t that I wasn’t being me, it was more that I wasn’t being the full me! I started blogging writing more about stuff and that’s not me… crazy right? But honestly it’s not, I am about having fun, doing stuff and living life! Sure I like new stuff, but do you really want to read about my MAC order that has been the same since 2012? Probably not! My life isn’t always exciting but hey who’s is! I have learned to be more personal and it seems to have a good impact on my growth! You guys like reading about me, stuff that I have learned, not learned and what’s really going on. Not just what I just bought or blah, blah, blah! Sometime it’s nice to not always see roses and rainbows.
4|| Losing 30 Instagram Followers In A Day Doesn’t Matter
Why this mattered I don’t really know but it did! However losing these 30 Instagram followers in a day taught me that I gain some I lose some and not everyone is going to like me or my blog. It’s not a competition, I am who I am, and its okay if you don’t want to stick around. Not everyone needs to or will like you!
5|| Becoming A Pro-Blogger Is My (pipe) Dream
When I started blogging, I didn’t think much of it other than something small to do on the side to keep me busy. Now I want it to be my full time job. I have seen my passion grow so much over the last year and I would love to some day be able to call blogging my job! It might never really happen, but it’s never a bad thing to have dreams!
6|| Be Original
I spend countless hours researching other bloggers, Instagramers and everyone in-between. I see stuff I love, wish I had, and sometimes I find myself trying to be something I am not. It’s so hard not to get caught up in huge trends or try and write an article similar to the one you read two days ago on that huge bloggers blog. I have learned that they are doing them, I am not them, and why try to be something I am not! It took me awhile but I have started to find my own style and I love it!
7|| Planning Is Key
If you follow me on social media you probably have seen my custom planning sheets. Well guess what!? I actually use them and they work pretty well! For me I get into a ” I don’t have anything to write about” slump, that I can’t get out of. It actually was my moms idea to start planning out each month ahead of time to stop that from reoccurring. Boy she is so smart, because it actually helped me out so much. I can look, see what idea or post is next and not have that road block anymore. Planning for me is now a key aspect in my life.
8|| Confidence Is Everything
Blogging comes with a lot of self promotion, it can be anywhere from posting pictures of yourself, promoting blog posts or just putting yourself out there! With this you need to have confidence in yourself. You have to rock what you are doing and own what you are trying to promote! If you don’t believe in yourself why should other people? I have definitely struggled with this one and am slowly learning how to conquer this self love thing! It does not come over night and has been a continuous battle I face almost everyday. However blogging has definitely helped, I get to connect and see all these different people who struggle in the same spots as me. It’s helped me get over some things and learn to be confident and get the old me back!
9|| Be Consistent
Over the last month or two I have really worked on this one and have seen it make a pretty big improvement! Being consistent is hard and a lot of work but the planning like I said above really helps. I have seen my numbers almost double since trying to be more consistent and that means it works! Not posting or posting all over the place will not lead to trust or good engagement so here I am posting on a Thursday like usual.
10|| Hard Work Pays Off
Time is something blogging sure sucks up. In the begging all you do is hustle, self promote and spend hours writing just to get nowhere! Well I have finally gotten to the point where all my hard work is paying off! I see my following growing, my views doubling and brands want to work with me…. I never imagined a year ago that I would have the community around me that I do today. My hard work has payed off and I will continue to work harder just to see what will come!
Just like that it’s all over, another year gone and another one to come. I can honestly say that Everything Meli has come into my life for a reason, it has taken the old me and made some pretty incredible improvements. It’s become a huge part of me as are all of you! The next year is going to be crazy but I think you all are going to like where life is taking us! Till next time and like always stay tuned!
