I am so beyond excited to finally share the big news, we are officially moving! After spending the last year searching high and low for a place to call home, we have finally found one! We have found not only a place, but a place where our dream home will stand and I can’t freakin wait!
I have had to hide this excitement for many months now and that really sucked! I hated not being able to bring you all along but now that it’s official, I am finally here to let you all in on the big secret…. we are moving to Lethbridge, Alberta!!
I know, you probably all read that and went umm what!? It’s a reaction we get a lot and hey I totally get it! How do you go from wanting to move to Vancouver to Lethbridge Alberta? It’s a reaction that I have responded to a hundred times and now I will answer it for you too!
Let’s start at the beginning!
A little over a year ago we started looking at all different places to live! We had created a list of what we wanted but most importantly we wanted somewhere that wouldn’t completely take away our lifestyle! We like to travel. We like to go out for dinner. We like the materialistic things in life and we didn’t want to put our selves into a position that would completely limit us from that!
So with that in mind, we kind of got stuck when it came to our options! Vancouver has extremely high house prices and to be honest it just keeps getting busier which isn’t my fave. We also looked at a few other places, but they just didn’t have what we wanted or were way too expensive for what you got! So even though Vancouver was our “dream” location, it wasn’t really an option and that is when we came across Lethbridge!
Somehow one of us came across this house that’s price was way too good to be true! But it actually wasn’t, the house prices in Lethbridge are crazy! You can buy a brand new house for $300,000 a thing you can’t even do in Smithers! Oh, and it’s not some crappy house it’s a pretty nice one if you ask me. So we got on the google and started our research!!
We found out quite quickly that Lethbridge has some great pluses! It’s one of the sunniest cities in Canada! A win in my books! It’s also one of the fastest growing cities in Alberta, a big thing to us was not living in a small town and that right there means no small town! Whoot! Whoot! It also has a university and a college which is a great plus too! Oh, and we can’t forget about the fact that it has a Walmart… you don’t know how much you miss that place till you live somewhere without one! lol! The list could honestly go on and this is why we decided we needed to jump in the car and check it out!
And that’s exactly what we did, we got our little butts in the car and drove the fifteen plus hours to check this place out. One of the longest drives ever! Like seriously, we were going to check out a place that could be our new home! Scary yet so exciting at the same time!! Not to mention we were going to look at homes! It was a pretty exciting yet super nerve-racking all at the same time. One adventure I will never forget!
Before we left we made sure to map out a few show homes we wanted to check out along with locations. We knew areas we wanted to see, homes we needed to visit, and that is what we spent three days doing! We also took a drive or two to Calgary so we could see what a bigger city offered! Let’s just say this trip was full of driving! Not my favorite thing, but hey, it did give lots of time to ponder and think everything through!
It didn’t take long before we both knew that this might just be our new home! Let’s get real, we knew it was our new home. Especially after seeing this one lot in an up and coming neighborhood. It was perfect for us! It would allow us to have a driveway, a fairly large backyard, and it also was in our budget! Not to mention a very short walk to an elementary school that will be built in the next five years! It just seemed to be an option that benefited us not just now but long term too!
And here we are today! Papers signed, walls being built, and the countdown coming to an end! It’s definitely been a roller coaster of emotions but we are both so excited to move on with our lives! Let’s get this next chapter rolling! And I know how excited you all are to see more of this house and maybe see how I decorate it! A few birdies have requested a few posts like that! But like me, you can patiently wait the next three months out… I know it’ll be a long one but trust me soooooo worth it!
There ya have it! This girl is becoming an Albertan and she cannot wait!
