Let me tell ya, after 30 hours of consecutive travel, I have never had a more enjoyable moment than the one where my head hit the pillow! I have encountered some long nights, early mornings, but never anything that drained the life outta me the way 30 hours of travel did! We have taken a taxi, two planes, a train, another plane one more taxi all to get from Smithers B.C. to our little villa in Seminyak Bali! Phew, am I ever glad that’s all over!
Besides the crazy sleep deprived Meli here I am with the first ever post from Bali! My first impressions…
|| Rain Rain Go Away ||
Considering we knowingly booked our trip in the rainy season I was pleasantly surprised to see yes, it does rain, but not for long! It will rain for say a half hour and then suns for two or even longer! Completely blown away! Considering that the rainy season in Vancouver lasts for days, nights, weeks heck even years! Huge win for us here!
|| Sweat City ||
Gross, but so true… Bali my friends, is HOT! Just imagine being in a cranked up sauna all hours of the day and never getting out! I honestly have never sweated this much in my whole entire life! As Kyle said, “We have enough sweat here to put out the fires in Californa…”
|| Way Dirtier Than People Portray ||
For the eight months before we departed, I spent hours and hours of time researching the good, the bad, and the ugly of Bali! Yes, I saw little snippets about the dirt, but not a lot of talk about how dirty it really is! On day two we took a trip down to Seminyak beach and after seeing the garbage-filled water and sandy bank I was disgusted… For example, I put my feet in the water and got wrapped up in plastic bags, garbage, and god only knows what else! I’m sorry but that’s not something I ever read about…
However, I will say the shops and streets are cleaner than I expected them to be! Shopkeepers are out sweeping their section of the sidewalk along with washing it too! So that is one thing I also didn’t see coming!
|| Wheres All The People? ||
About two months ago Bali had a volcano scare! If you live under a rock you probably didn’t hear about this event but it was breaking news! People were canceling vacations left, right and center all for something that most likely wouldn’t affect them!
When we got on our final flight from Korea to Bali I noticed right away that our flight was empty! Which for a busy season like Christmas this shouldn’t be the case… so it was no surprise when we arrived and found Bali to be the exact same, empty! You can definitely tell the volcano has taken a huge toll on the tourism here! It’s honestly one thing that has left a huge impression on both Kyle and I! It just so sad to see places fully staffed with no people! So you travel bugs come to Bali!
|| Cheap! Cheap! Cheap! ||
By cheap I mean two people can eat a decent sized meal for $10! I can barely get a Starbucks drink in Canda for $10 let alone getting a meal for two anywhere near that price! This surprised us immensely, who knew Bali was this affordable! Rooms are cheap! The transportation here is cheap! Let’s just get real, almost everything here is cheap! Well minus the sundresses I seem to be wanting to buy… like why can’t I like the $10 ones!? But still, if you don’t have expensive taste like me you can even get clothes really cheap here too! Deal hunters, where you at!?
|| Not The Friendliest Place ||
Anyone who knows either Kyle or I, knows that we are pretty outgoing and sociable! Our thought was for sure we’d meet a few people while traveling but that just doesn’t seem to be that easy in the location we are at! I didn’t really know what to expect when it came to atmosphere and outgoingness of people but I am extremely surprised by what I am seeing!
The workers at our hotel are lovely and super kind! However, we have run into many people who seem to want nothing to do with us or anyone but themselves! Very stuck up and “I’m better than you” vibes, which to me seems weird! You’re in Bali, chill out!
|| Our Villa Is GORGEOUS ||
Sooooooo gorgeous! Like I can not get over how charming it is!! This being said, after we booked our villa almost eight months ago when it wasn’t even finished, no pictures to go by, not even a review! We took a chance and it has 100% paid off! The pool is beautiful, the room is homey, and just overall more than we could have imagined! Oh, and the staff is extremely accommodating and kind! You guys definitely need to stay tuned for the post all about the villa!
There ya have it, my very first impressions of Bali! It’s almost been a full week here and I can not wait to see what the next 55 days bring us! Let’s hope less rain and more sun but who am I kidding, we came in the rainy season! Well friends, see you next week and don’t be shy to follow along on Instagram!
